John holds both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in
Horticulture from New Mexico State University. He assists the curator with the general
maintenance and continued development of the Chihuahuan Desert Gardens. As a lifelong
area resident, John has lived and worked in the Texas/New Mexico area writing gardening
advice columns for the area newspapers, co-hosting the PBS television series,
Southwest Yard & Garden, developing gardening classes such as the SunSCAPE
program and the Extension Master Gardener Program, as well as numerous television and
radio programs. John brings his 35 years of extension service experience, almost 19
years as El Paso County Extension Agent, to the Chihuahuan Desert Gardens. He can be
found most weekday mornings watering the gardens and tending to new plantings.
